The University of California continues to demonstrate leadership in sustainable procurement, with three UC locations recognized through the 2026 EPEAT Purchaser Awards presented by the Global Electronics Council (GEC).

This year, UC Santa Barbara, UC San Diego Health, and UC Merced are being honored for their commitment to purchasing sustainable electronics and advancing responsible procurement practices. UC Santa Barbara earned its sixth EPEAT Purchaser Award, UC San Diego Health received its fourth, and UC Merced is being recognized for the first time.

The EPEAT Purchaser Awards celebrate organizations that use procurement to reduce environmental impacts and support more sustainable supply chains. By prioritizing EPEAT-registered electronics, participating organizations help drive demand for products that incorporate environmental and social responsibility throughout their lifecycle.

For the University of California, sustainable procurement is an important way to align purchasing decisions with broader institutional sustainability goals and demonstrate how everyday operational decisions can contribute to long-term impact.

“Receiving our sixth EPEAT Purchaser Award is an honor and reflects the collective efforts of staff across campus who integrate sustainability into purchasing decisions every day. Sustainable electronics purchasing turns our commitments into measurable action, and EPEAT provides a trusted framework to help us make informed choices while encouraging continuous improvement throughout the electronics marketplace," said Jen Bowser, Sustainable Procurement Program Manager and Small Business Officer, UC Santa Barbara.

These recognitions reflect the collective efforts of procurement teams, sustainability professionals, IT departments, and staff across each location who make thoughtful purchasing decisions every day.

The 2026 EPEAT Purchaser Awards ceremony will take place virtually on Thursday, July 23, 2026. Members of the UC community are invited to join the celebration and recognize this year’s award recipients. Register and add the ceremony to your calendar. A recording of the ceremony will be shared following the event.
