UC Berkeley’s Travel Team, in collaboration with the Berkeley Sustainability Office and the UC Central Travel Office, hosted the second annual Sustainable Travel event on October 10, 2024. This innovative gathering brought together over 20 systemwide travel suppliers, campus organizations, and sustainability advocates to showcase how travel products and services are becoming more sustainable and carbon neutral.
A Showcase of Collaboration
Attendees—including staff, faculty, and students—explored booths and presentations from major airlines, rental car companies, global hotel chains, and local hotel partners, alongside campus divisions like Cal Dining and UC Berkeley Energy. The event highlighted practical tools and strategies to reduce the environmental impact of university-related travel while ensuring convenience and cost-efficiency.
Inspiring the UC System
The event’s reach extended beyond Berkeley, with representatives from other UC campuses attending to gather ideas and resources. Inspired by Berkeley’s leadership, several campuses are now considering hosting their own sustainable travel events to promote environmentally conscious practices across the system.
A Tradition in the Making
The success of this year’s event—and the enthusiastic feedback from participants—has already set the stage for a third annual gathering in 2025. Mark your calendars, as this event is quickly becoming a cornerstone for those invested in sustainability and travel across UC.
Berkeley’s leadership in sustainable travel not only underscores its commitment to environmental stewardship but also fosters collaboration and innovation across the UC system. Here’s to a greener future, one journey at a time!
