UC Systemwide Procurement (SWP) is excited to welcome Gurpreet Atwal as Finance Manager as of February 27, 2024. Gurpreet has honed his business and finance skills over many years and brings with him a wealth of experience and expertise in financial management and analysis, budgeting, and team leadership, making him a valuable addition to our team.
In his most recent role as Business/Finance Manager at the California National Primate Research Center (CNPRC) at UC Davis, Gurpreet managed complex financial and customer service operations. He spearheaded budgeting and reporting activities, grant management, and recharge rate calculations, overseeing over $50 million in annual activity. Gurpreet's strategic initiatives led to significant revenue generation, including securing federal approval for an indirect cost recovery mechanism that now generates $5 million annually.
Prior to his work at UC Davis, Gurpreet held positions at companies including Cisco Systems and Hewlett-Packard, where he excelled in financial analysis, contract management, and supply chain optimization.
As SWP Finance Manager, Gurpreet will oversee SWP’s complex budget. He will lead budget development and administration, ensure accurate reporting and expenditure tracking, research and analyze financial scenarios, develop and document budget processes, and train staff on financial practices.
With an MBA from CSU, East Bay, and a BA in Business Administration from UC Berkeley, Gurpreet's expertise will be instrumental in maximizing financial outcomes and supporting revenue generation initiatives. He will serve as our Bank Card program lead, managing the supplier relationship and commercial card program reporting.
Outside of work, Gurpreet’s interests extend beyond numbers. He really enjoys cars, and many years ago owned two car repair shops in San Leandro. He also enjoys sports, especially basketball. But his favorite activity is spending time with his family.
