UC Systemwide Procurement is pioneering a new way to collaborate with its most impactful suppliers through the Mutual Value Partnership (MVP) program—an initiative designed to create deeper, more strategic relationships that benefit both parties. This pilot program, launched by Systemwide Procurement, aims to drive innovation, efficiency, and mutual growth.
Four suppliers—Deloitte, Oracle, US Bank, and Waxie—were selected for the inaugural pilot following an extensive segmentation and evaluation process. The goal? To determine what adjustments, if any, are needed to roll out this private sector best practice in public higher education procurement.
A Milestone with Deloitte
In February, UC leaders from Procurement, IT, and Human Resources convened in San Francisco for the first-ever Annual Business Review with Deloitte Consulting under this program. This meeting was a crucial milestone, marking 12 months of collaboration under the Systemwide IT Consulting Agreement with Deloitte and OMNIA Partners. The discussion focused on acknowledging successes, addressing challenges, capturing learnings, and identifying opportunities to improve our partnership.
Deloitte, a long-standing partner in higher education consulting, has played a significant role in helping UC navigate complex challenges in areas such as cloud services, enterprise risk management, health and benefits, and digital transformation.
The Power of Partnership
Deloitte's commitment to higher education excellence extends beyond consulting. The Deloitte Foundation has contributed $3.8 million in donations over the past decade to support UC academic programs, including:
- The Deloitte Foundation Classroom at Haas School of Business
- The Michelle Alyssa Go/Deloitte Foundation Women’s Leadership Scholarship Fund
- The Deloitte Entrepreneurship Initiative Fund
Additionally, Deloitte fosters student and faculty engagement through initiatives like the Deloitte Foundation Accounting Scholars Program, Discovery Internship, and the AAA/Deloitte Foundation Doctoral Consortium.
Real Impact: Deloitte’s Recent Projects at UC
Deloitte’s work with UC has already made a tangible difference:
- UCOP RASC Portal – A newly developed retirement services portal provides UC employees with a seamless, centralized experience for retirement planning.
- UCOP Mainframe Retirement – By leveraging AWS services, UC successfully retired an aging mainframe system, ensuring cost efficiency, security, and long-term sustainability.
- ApplyUC Remediation – Deloitte fine-tuned UC’s online admissions system, preventing disruptions during peak enrollment seasons and improving the experience for 250,000+ applicants annually.
Looking Ahead
With the MVP program still in its pilot phase, UC is exploring new areas of collaboration with Deloitte, including generative AI, sustainability, executive leadership labs, and tax services. The insights gained from this partnership will shape the future of UC’s supplier relationships, driving strategic value for the University.
As the pilot progresses, UC will assess its effectiveness and determine if the MVP framework should be expanded to other key suppliers. UC continues to strengthen its partnerships in ways that create additional value for the entire UC system.
Stay tuned for updates as we unlock the full potential of Mutual Value Partnerships!
