Supplier Partnerships Advance Laboratory Sustainability Across UC

UC Systemwide Procurement structured two major supplier partnerships to provide campuses with flexible funding for laboratory sustainability. Zeiss contributes $50,000 each fiscal year for green-laboratory initiatives, with another $50,000 available when systemwide sales exceed $5 million. Campuses may use the funds for equipment, rebates, operational projects, outreach, or student staffing based on local needs. Fisher Scientific has contributed $100,000 annually since 2022, providing $10,000 to each participating campus for rebates that help researchers replace inefficient equipment. Together, these partnerships represent approximately $200,000 in potential annual industry investment and have supported hundreds of equipment replacements, showing how supplier relationships can deliver measurable campus-level progress toward systemwide sustainability goals.

UC Berkeley

Building the Blueprint for Workforce Transformation

UC Berkeley began work with Hays in May 2026 as the first campus in UC's phased Managed Service Provider rollout. Discovery workshops brought Procurement, hiring managers, and departments together to design a more consistent approach to contingent labor. The program combines Hays' Three Story Software with planned JAGGAER integration to connect hiring, approvals, purchasing, and workforce oversight. FY26 discovery and design laid the groundwork for implementation in FY27 and a planned early 2027 launch, with a focus on improving visibility, compliance, and administrative efficiency.

Berkeley Helps Shape Public Sector AI Procurement Tools Through Strategic Collaboration

UC Berkeley is working with procurement software providers as a strategic design partner for emerging AI tools. Rather than purchasing technology only as an end user, the campus is contributing feedback on practical challenges such as policy compliance, funding constraints, and multi-department approval chains. This co-creation approach brings real operational needs into product development and aims to produce tools better suited to higher education. By contributing campus expertise early, Berkeley is helping shape solutions around the realities of public-sector purchasing.

UC Merced

Enabling NCAA Advancement Through Cross-Functional Partnership

As UC Merced pursued NCAA designation, Procurement partnered with Athletics, Finance, and campus leadership to meet an accelerated schedule of acquisitions and contracts. The team negotiated agreements for ticketing and athletic-performance platforms and supported required infrastructure and equipment. The effort demonstrates how responsive service, supplier negotiation, and cross-functional planning can advance a high-priority institutional initiative.

UC Merced PepsiCo Agreement Delivers Long-Term Value

UC Merced transformed a contract renewal into a multi-year strategic partnership with PepsiCo, securing $77,000 in actualized incentives and an estimated $22,000 in annual value-based benefits. Led by the campus Category Manager for Auxiliary Services, negotiations brought together Athletics, Housing and Auxiliary Services, Hospitality and Catering, and Sustainability to align the agreement with institutional priorities and UC policy. Beyond the financial value, the agreement includes marketing support, Gatorade Sideline Fund resources, opportunities to pilot emerging food and beverage programs, and flexibility to support future campus needs.

UC Riverside

New Agreement Expands Riverside GIS Resources

UC Riverside joined the UCOP Esri Consortium through a new systemwide licensing agreement, expanding access to geospatial and mapping tools used in teaching, research, and administration. The agreement increased UCR allotment from 5,900 active users to 15,000, creating capacity for broader use across the campus. Students can use Esri tools for data science and visualization, faculty can build interactive instruction, researchers can conduct advanced spatial analysis, and staff can support operational needs. The partnership demonstrates how systemwide contracting can extend specialized technology access and institutional value.

UC San Diego

UC San Diego Reimagines Industry Partnerships

UC San Diego's inaugural Partnership Summit brought together 110 industry executives and university leaders to reimagine how the campus works with its suppliers. Rather than focusing on individual transactions, the summit encouraged participants to explore more integrated, mission-aligned relationships built around shared priorities and long-term value. The event created a dedicated forum for candid dialogue, stronger connections, and new approaches to collaboration between UC San Diego and its industry partners. By elevating supplier engagement to a strategic level, the summit established a foundation for partnerships that can better support the University's research, operational, and community goals.

UCSB Launches Supplier Information Series

UCSB Procurement launched Supplier Info Sessions in March, connecting campus buyers with Amazon Business, ODP Business Solutions, Polycarbin, Westnet, and bkm Office Environments. Virtual presentations and Q&A help users navigate punchout catalogs and identify sustainable products, circular lab-plastics services, small-business suppliers, and furniture repurposing options. Recordings and policy guides are retained in an open-access repository, extending the sessions into an on-demand resource for efficient, sustainable, and inclusive purchasing.

UCSB Relaunches Amazon Business with Guidance

UC Santa Barbara relaunched Amazon Business with guidance that helps campus buyers choose between the Gateway punchout and authorized procurement card purchases. The initiative shows users how to navigate the marketplace and identify preferred sustainable products and small business sellers. A dedicated Amazon Business + UCSB webpage brings together buying-channel recommendations, user guides, and practical purchasing guidance, giving departments a centralized resource for using the platform effectively within campus procurement workflows.

UCSC Brings OneCard Amazon Purchasing Under Strategic Oversight

Beginning in March 2026, UC Santa Cruz required OneCard purchases from Amazon to flow through the campus official Amazon Business account. The managed channel combines institutional pricing, quantity discounts, analytics, and audit visibility with guided-buying controls that prioritize strategic agreements, campus-contracted suppliers, and local, small, diverse, and sustainable options. Procurement supported the migration with training and office hours. By bringing high-volume marketplace purchasing into a governed environment, UCSC is improving compliance and spend transparency while directing buyers toward choices that better support university priorities.

LAMP Enhances and Extends UC’s Purchasing Power

In FY26, the UC and OMNIA Lead Agency Marketing Partnership (LAMP) program moved $1.2B in spend across 84 contracts in 34 categories, returning $5.9M to UC campuses and reinvesting $3M into UC Procurement initiatives and programs. Through OMNIA Partners, LAMP makes UC’s competitively bid and publicly awarded contracts available to UC campuses and eligible public agencies nationwide.

LAMP is more than a portfolio of compliant contracts– it helps UC aggregate demand, strengthen purchasing leverage and improve value over time. Greater use of LAMP contracts across the UC system supports better pricing, stronger service standards and supplier accountability, while streamlining procurement, expanding supplier access, reducing risk and returning revenue to UC. This valuable partnership also extends UC’s procurement influence and public mission to agencies across the country.

Strategic Partnerships That Improve the Travel Experience

UC’s Central Travel Office treats airline, hotel, car rental, travel-management, and payment providers as strategic partners—using quarterly reviews to examine performance, savings, traveler benefits, satisfaction, sustainability, and emerging services. These conversations, combined with the CTO's participation in supplier advisory groups and forums, give UC a direct voice in shaping travel offerings and industry practices.
The CTO also brings suppliers and travelers together: in FY2025–26, 28 educational events engaged more than 12,500 faculty and staff, sharing negotiated benefits and inviting questions and feedback. Together, these partnerships help surface new ideas, strengthen value, and make UC’s travel program more responsive to the needs of its community.
